Melvin T. “Andy” Anderson, 86, of Burchinal, died peacefully Monday, July 13, 2026, in Mason City.
Born May 14, 1940, on his family’s farm east of Klemme, Andy was the son of Walter and Magna Rasmussen Anderson. He spent much of his childhood in North Iowa and graduated from Mason City High School in 1959.
Andy married Nancy Bates on September 12, 1964, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
The couple shared more than 61 years of marriage, building a life centered on hard work, family and an appreciation for life’s quieter moments.
According to his obituary, Andy worked at several North Iowa businesses during his lifetime, including the Sugar Beet Factory, Sukup Manufacturing, Curtis 1000 and the Holiday Inn.
He retired in 2002 following a working life marked by dedication, dependability and honest labor.
Andy enjoyed studying clear night skies through his telescope, playing guitar, watching wildlife and tending his garden.
Quiet and reserved, he was also remembered as patient, kind and friendly. His obituary notes that he had an easy way of talking with people and made others feel welcome.
Family remained Andy’s greatest joy. Time spent gathering with loved ones, talking with friends and enjoying the company of those closest to him became the moments he valued most.
Andy is survived by his wife, Nancy Anderson; sons Doug Anderson of Burchinal and Chris Anderson and Jennifer Bergman; grandchildren Trisha and Owen; extended family members; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Magna Anderson; sister Dagny Schmidt; and brothers Calvin Anderson and Einar Anderson.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street NE in Mason City.
Visitation will continue at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, one hour before the funeral service, at Hanford Community Church, 12411 Spruce Avenue in rural Mason City.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hanford Community Church, with the Rev. Dan Carlson officiating.
Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery, 10111 190th Street near Swaledale and rural Burchinal.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Croix Hospice in Mason City or Elderbridge Agency on Aging in North Central Iowa.
