FAYETTE COUNTY — Three Northern Iowa residents were injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision that authorities attributed to the use of a mobile device. The Iowa State Patrol responded to the intersection of Highway 3 and I Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 6, 2026.
According to the official report, 16-year-old Landon Jaxon Graber of Stanley was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion when he attempted to turn north onto I Avenue. The Fusion turned into the path of a westbound 2025 Chevrolet 1500 driven by 45-year-old Michael Reed Lockie of New Hampton. The Chevrolet struck the passenger car, leading to injuries for everyone inside the Ford.
State troopers determined that the 16-year-old driver was using an electronic communication device at the time of the crash. While the driver and one passenger were wearing seatbelts, the report indicates that an 11-year-old passenger was not restrained at the time of the impact.
The driver and his two passengers—11-year-old Karson Alan Graber of Stanley and 16-year-old Edward James Kieffert of Oelwein—were all transported to MercyOne-Oelwein by ambulance for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was not reported to have been injured in the crash.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Stanley Fire and First Responders, Aurora Fire and First Responders, and Oelwein and Mercy ambulances.
