MASON CITY – Marcia “Marcy” Ann Colvin, 74, of Mason City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following a second battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City, and again for one hour before Thursday’s service at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Burial will be held at Owatonna Memorial Garden Cemetery in Owatonna, Minnesota.
Marcy was born June 13, 1952, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Richard A. Moen and Patricia A. Collins Moen. She was the oldest of three daughters.
She spent part of her childhood in Algona before her family moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, during her sophomore year of high school.
Marcy graduated from Owatonna High School in 1970. That same year, she was crowned Miss Owatonna and went on to participate in the Miss Minnesota pageant.
She later attended the University of Minnesota, where she took part in drama productions and also learned belly dancing.
In 1974, Marcy married her high school classmate, John C. Colvin. The couple would go on to share 52 years together.
They moved to Rockford, Illinois, where their daughter Kelly Ann was born in 1978 and their son Charles Richard followed in 1982.
The family made many lasting memories raising their children in Rockford before a job transfer brought them to Mason City in 1987, a move that also put them closer to relatives in Owatonna.
Marcy became deeply involved in the Mason City community.
For many years, she volunteered with Mason City Schools and Trinity Lutheran Church before answering what became an important calling in her life.
In 1998, Marcy became youth director at Trinity Lutheran Church, a position she held until retiring in 2020.
Over more than two decades, she worked with hundreds of young people from Mason City and the surrounding area, offering spiritual guidance, encouragement and support during their teenage years.
Her influence reached well beyond church activities, as she built lasting relationships with generations of local families and young people.
Marcy loved her work with youth, but family remained at the center of her life.
She also treasured the friendships she built near and far and took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
Marcy is survived by her husband, John; daughter Kelly and son-in-law Brian Smith; son Charlie; grandchildren Anders, Signe, Eleanora, Elivia and Elliot; sisters Diane (Bob) Jungbluth and Melinda (Paul) Batz; and members of their families.
Memorial contributions may be directed to support the youth program at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, continuing the work that meant so much to Marcy throughout her life.
