Northern Iowa woman dead in Emmet county head-on traffic accident

EMMET COUNTY - An Estherville woman died as the result of a head-on traffic accident in rural Emmet County=.

EMMET COUNTY – An Estherville woman died as the result of a head-on traffic accident in rural Emmet County=.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the Emmet County Communications Center received a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident approximately 1 mile South of the Iowa/Minnesota state line on Highway 4 at 9:07 AM on Sunday, November 27, 2022. The caller also reported that one person was trapped in a vehicle.

Upon arrival on the scene, it was discovered that a northbound 2014 Nissan collided with a southbound 2011 Subaru in a head on collision.

The Estherville Fire Department responded to the scene with the “jaws of life” and was able to free the trapped occupant of the vehicle.

The driver of the 2011 Subaru, Randy Clabaugh age (66) and passenger Anna Clabaugh age (63) of Independence, Minnesota were treated at the scene and transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital by the Estherville Ambulance Service for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2014 Nissan, Kathleen Forstrom age (61) of Estherville was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Estherville Police Department, Emmet County Emergency Management, Emmet County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
