Cedar Falls cops arrest man after robbery spree

CEDAR FALLS - A man allegedly committed three robberies in Cedar Falls and after two hits on local hotels, cops caught up with the suspect who then threw a bat at them.

CEDAR FALLS – A man allegedly committed three robberies in Cedar Falls and after two hits on local hotels, cops caught up with the suspect who then threw a bat at them.

On November 29, 2022, at 3:55 a.m., Cedar Falls Police were dispatched to the Hilton Garden Inn (7213 Nordic Drive) in reference to a Robbery. The suspect entered the business and took money from the front desk before leaving through a rear door. The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing. Officers arrived in the area and while searching for the suspect, a second call came in from a different location.

On November 29, 2022, at 4:03 a.m., Black Hawk County Dispatch received a report that the Super 8 Motel (7515 Nordic Drive) was robbed and the suspect exited out of the middle entrance. The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing. Officers responded to the Super 8 Motel when a male fitting the description, was observed walking westbound along West Ridgeway Avenue. Officers attempted contact with the suspect. The suspect threw a bat and then took off running. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody. Officers recovered the cash. While officers interviewed the suspect, he admitted to committing the robbery on November 27, 2022, at the Metro Mart (103 Franklin Street, Cedar Falls). A search warrant was conducted, and cash was recovered from this robbery as well.

Giovonni Davis, of Cedar Falls, was charged with the following:

– Robbery 1st degree (B felony) in reference to the Metro Mart Incident
– Burglary 1st degree (B felony) in reference to the Hilton Garden Inn Incident
– Robbery 1st degree (B felony) in reference to the Super 8 Motel Incident
– Interference with official acts in reference to fleeing police from the scene

Cedar Falls Police was assisted by the Black Hawk County Dispatch Center.
