Man with explosives who fired gun at woman has most serious charges dismissed

MASON CITY – A man who police said beat up a woman, held her against her will, and fired a gun at her and who was later found to have explosives in his home had a number of serious charges against him dismissed against him last week.

Mark O’Gorman of Mason City was charged in July with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, false imprisonment and serious assault after police investigated an alleged assault at O’Gorman’s south side Mason City home. After an investigation which included interviewing a woman who was in Mercy Hospital receiving treatment for injuries allegedly sustained from O’Gorman and the execution of a search warrant at O’Gorman’s house at 308 21st Street SE, police added charges of possession with intent to manufacture marijuana, two counts of possession of an incendiary device and possession of methamphetamine.

On December 9th, O’Gorman plead guilty to two a charge of serious misdemeanor assault and felony drug possession. All the other charges were dismissed.

O’Gorman will be sentenced on January 27, 2014.

Proper evidence of guilt?
