FERGUSON, IOWA – An Iowa man did not return home from a fishing trip, leading to a search for him, and a tragic discovery.

At approximately 8:30 PM on 02/28/25, Deputies were dispatched to Green Castle Recreation Area in Ferguson, Iowa, to locate an overdue fisherman, Timothy Eggers of State Center, Iowa.

When deputies arrived on scene, an unresponsive male was located partially submerged in an open water area at Green Castle Lake.

Marshalltown Fire Department began a cold-water rescue. The male fisherman was transferred to the shoreline where emergency medical personnel began administering first aid. The male was identified as Timothy Eggers, 64, of State Center, Iowa.

Unity Point Heath Ambulance Service transported Mr. Eggers to Unity Point Health-Marshalltown where he was later pronounced deceased.
The death remains under investigation, however initial investigation indicates ice conditions on the lake was a contributing factor the Mr. Eggers’s death.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Marshall County Conservation, Gilman Fire Department, Gilman First Responders, Marshalltown Fire Department, Unity Point Heath-Marshalltown Ambulance, and Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Our condolences go out to Mr. Eggers’s family and friends during this difficult time.
