As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 5, 2012, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, August 10, 2012.  I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.

Were you people on here whining when the flag was lowered for the Colorado shooting victims?

No where have I seen that these people were foreigners. I have read they are Sikhs-a religious group. Just because they aren’t wasps doesn’t make your assumptions valid. And this country is based in freedom and our constitution guarantees freedom of religion. If you don’t like it, leave.

It said right in the Globe that they were from India.

Don’t think you read it right. The Sikhs come from India. All were here legally, some had green cards, others were citizens for many years. Does it really matter? This kind of senseless violence is horrible wherever it occurs. Don’t you think?

Don’t thing you read it correctly. The families came from India and were members of the Sikh religion. Some were citizens for years, some had green cards. None were here illegally. All were here to live in the U.S. and make it their home. Does it really matter though? This type of senseless violence is horrible regardless of where it occurs. Don’t you think?

The U.S. Flag is lowered for far to many folks anymore. It is way out of hand ! Why should the flag be lowered for foreigners, even if it is a terrorist attack? The flag is starting to become a meaningless symbol 🙁

Originally it was for presidents or senators or represenatives then they started for soldiers, now for anybody I guess.

I thought lowering of the flag was reserved for lost soldiers. Not some people from another country.
