STACYVILLE — Robert “Bob” Peter Wagner, a lifelong Mitchell County farmer, U.S. Army veteran and longtime member of the Stacyville community, died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 17, 2026. He was 84.
Born December 5, 1941, in Mitchell County to Herbert and Rose Wagner, Bob grew up with deep roots in rural Northern Iowa. After completing eighth grade at Stacyville Visitation School, he went to work on the family farm, beginning what would become a lifetime closely tied to agriculture.
In 1964, Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army and served for two years at Fort Carson, Colorado. After returning home, he worked for L.R. Falk, Theobald Implement and hauled milk for Stolzenberg before joining his father in farming the family land.
According to his obituary, Bob met Grace Learn on a blind date, beginning a relationship that would span more than five decades. The couple married on October 14, 1972, and raised four children together.
Farming remained a central part of Bob’s life, and he continued living on the family farm until declining health made that no longer possible.
Bob was a member of Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Music was also part of his life, and he sang lead with the Forte Milers Barbershop Chorus.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Grace; children Richard Wagner of Dike, Lisa Power of Osage, Brian Wagner of St. Ansgar and Philip Wagner of Dexter, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Michels; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John, James and Daniel; his sister, Ceceiia; and other members of his extended family.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.
Visitation will continue for one hour before the funeral on Wednesday.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with Father Paul Baldwin officiating.
Burial will follow at Visitation Catholic Cemetery.
