CHARLES CITY — Thomas William Oliver, 95, of Charles City, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Thomas was born April 8, 1931, in Charles City, the son of William and Myrtle Daly Oliver. He attended Charles City schools and graduated with the Class of 1950.
He continued his education for two years at North Iowa Area Community College and later attended Iowa State University for one year.
According to his obituary, Thomas proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He received an honorable discharge on March 8, 1953.
Thomas held several jobs during his younger years and became especially proud of his long career at White Farm. He worked in quality control as an inspector for 37 years before retiring on July 15, 1993.
His obituary notes that Thomas also enjoyed beekeeping. He produced enough honey to sell it by the barrel to companies in Minneapolis.
Thomas liked working with his hands and could often be found tinkering with radios and other projects in his garage. He also enjoyed caring for his yard and riding his lawn tractor.
Thomas married Donna Caruth on Dec. 28, 1971, in Cedar Falls. The couple made their home in Charles City and shared more than 54 years of marriage.
They enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States, with a trip to Colorado remaining an especially treasured memory.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Donna Oliver of Charles City; niece Nicole Rodriguez of Charles City; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Oliver; sister Darlene Benton; nephews Rick Benton and Rodney Benton; and his faithful Collie, Fluffy.
Visitation was held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home, 1205 South Main Street in Charles City.
Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Don Preston of Trinity United Methodist Church officiated.
Burial was held at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.
