WATERLOO — A man was stabbed to death early Saturday inside a Waterloo apartment building, launching another homicide investigation in a city that has seen several serious violent incidents this year.
Waterloo police and Waterloo Fire and Rescue were called to 1139 Langley Road at approximately 1:05 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, after reports of a fight followed by a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male victim in a common area of the apartment building.
Emergency crews immediately began lifesaving efforts.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet released his name as authorities work to notify his family.
Investigators said the killing appears to have been an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the broader community.
No arrest or suspect information was announced in the initial release.
The homicide comes amid a string of serious violent cases in the Waterloo area this year.
On May 31, an 18-year-old man was seriously wounded in an early-morning shooting on Canterbury Court. Police also described that shooting as an isolated incident. NIT’s report on that case can be read here.
In April, Waterloo police arrested 27-year-old Nicholas John Fettkether after 50-year-old Stephanie Turner was found dead inside a Butternut Lane residence. Fettkether was charged with second-degree murder. NIT’s coverage of that homicide is available here.
Another major homicide case unfolded nearby in Cedar Falls after 21-year-old Jaye’mya E’shay Sudduth was shot and killed during a February confrontation. A Waterloo man was later charged with first-degree murder in that case. NIT’s follow-up report can be read here.
The latest Langley Road death remains under active investigation.
