Mason City man remembered for longtime career, love of model airplanes

MASON CITY — Donald “Don” Fuller, a longtime Mason City resident who worked more than four decades in the local auto industry and was known for his love of model airplanes, died Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Center. He was 93.

MASON CITY — Donald “Don” Fuller, a longtime Mason City resident who worked more than four decades in the local auto industry and was known for his love of model airplanes, died Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Center. He was 93.

According to an obituary from Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Fuller was born March 11, 1933, in rural Clear Lake to Cecil and Viola Fuller. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1951 and was involved in FFA.

He married Bernadine Moore on Sept. 16, 1953. The couple shared 72 years of marriage and raised three daughters.

Fuller worked as a mechanic at Pritchard Ford in Mason City, which later became Schukei Chevrolet. He was eventually promoted to service manager and retired in 1995 after 43 years with the dealership.

Outside of work, Fuller spent many years building and flying model airplanes. He was a member of the River City R/C Club and also operated a small model airplane supply business from his home to help other hobbyists find parts.

Fuller was also active at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on church boards, according to the obituary.

He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Fuller and Melanie Nutting; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Baack; and other relatives.

Fuller was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine; a daughter, Toni Merfeld; his parents; and several other family members.
