Developing: Cops chase and catch man in Cultural Crescent

MASON CITY – Police chased and arrested a subject for possession of stolen property and interference with official acts Saturday evening in the Cultural Crescent.

Police were called to Cultural Crecent area of downtown Mason City after a report of possible theft from Southbridge Mall Saturday after 6 PM.  Police located a male subject and proceeded to chase him.  He was soon caught in an alley at the 100 block of South Delaware Avenue and placed in a squad car.

Police then drove and parked in front of the south entrance to the Younker’s department store, and talked to a security guard who came outside.  The subject was in the squad car at this time.

John Daniel Murphy, age 22, was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and charged with theft in the third degree and interference with official acts. He was held on $2,000 cash bond.
