CHARLES CITY – Diane Mary Brandt, 78, of Charles City, is being remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose faith, laughter and love for family shaped the lives of those around her.
Brandt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, surrounded by her family.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. Family and friends gathered before the service at the church, and Brandt was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. Cremation had taken place according to her wishes.
Diane Mary Laures was born March 26, 1948, in New Hampton, the daughter of Vincent and Ida Schueller Laures. She married David Brandt on September 30, 1967, and the couple shared nearly 59 years of marriage.
Family was central to Brandt’s life. She was the mother of Penny Williams, Troy Brandt and Julie Thorson, and a proud grandmother to Madeline MacDonald, Meghan, Joe, Alexandra, Cael, Taylor and Izabel. She also treasured her relationships with many nieces and nephews.
Brandt was known for showing up for the people she loved, whether at school events, sporting events, music performances or family milestones. Her family described her as someone who offered encouragement, pride and love.
For many years, Brandt worked as a financial office manager at Comprehensive Systems in Charles City, where she developed lasting friendships and was known for her dedication and warm personality.
She also enjoyed playing cards and games, traveling, spending time with family and friends, cruising in classic cars and creating memories with those close to her. Her faith remained an important part of her life.
In her later years, as she lived with dementia, Brandt’s smile, playful personality and love of dancing continued to bring joy to her family, caregivers and those around her.
Brandt was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Ellen Laures; and several siblings.
