CHARLES CITY — A 16-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody after Charles City police investigated a reported motor vehicle theft.

According to the Charles City Police Department, officers received a report at 7:42 a.m. on May 6, 2026, of a motor vehicle theft from a residence in the 100 block of Park Avenue.

Police said the vehicle was located later that morning at an apartment building in the 1400 block of Gilbert Street, where an investigation began.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old male was taken into custody and referred to Floyd County Juvenile Court Services for Theft 2nd Degree. Police said he was also referred for a second count of Theft 2nd Degree in connection with another vehicle that had been stolen the previous night.

A 17-year-old female was also referred for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in connection with the incident.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
