MILFORD, IA – The Milford area is reflecting on the life of Mable Smidt, who passed away on April 26, 2026. Mable was a beloved local figure known for her honesty and her deep commitment to helping others.
An Iowa woman who spent 30 years as a familiar face at The Taco House, Mable was known for a work ethic that was second to none. She also worked at the Bil-Mar turkey factory and Jo & By’s Pub over the years.
In her personal life, Mable found joy in traveling and sharing adventures with her late husband, Darryl Cowboy Smidt. She was a dedicated mother of five and a grandmother who took immense pride in the stories and lessons she passed down to her family.
She leaves behind five children—Bernie, Daniel, Randy, Dean, and Tammy—along with several stepchildren and a large extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A joint Celebration of Life for Mable and Darryl Smidt will be held on May 9, 2026, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.
