Mason City to celebrate public transit with free rides and ribbon cutting

MASON CITY – It will be a public transportation extravaganza in Mason City on March 22, complete with a dizzying array of ribbon-cutting hijinks and dazzling free transit rides.

By proclamation at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 20, the Mayor will declare Thursday, March 22, 2018 as Mason City Transit Day. This proclamation celebrates public transit in Mason City and the addition of 5 new transit buses to our fleet.

One of the new buses will be on display in front of City Hall from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for people to tour and learn about our transit system. Main Street Mason City and the Mason City Chamber of Commerce will present a “bus ribbon cutting” at 3:30 that afternoon. Also, Mason City Public Transit invites everyone to experience our transit system; there will be FREE bus rides all day on March 22, 2018.

Robin Anderson’s
Chamber crew will
be on hand to
cut ribbons.

“We’re excited to show off the new buses equipped with bicycle racks” said Dylan Schulte, Transit Operations and Safety Manager. “You can ride your bike to the bus stop, mount your bike on the rack, and then ride from your arrival point to anywhere.”

In partnership with the State of Iowa and the Federal Transit Administration, 85% of new bus costs come from State and Federal sources. This allows Mason City Transit to offer low cost transportation to many areas of the City.

Giving free rides is the only way people will ride the buses. The only business in mason city that loses money every day and is still open but then its the peoples money keeping it open and they have deep pockets

Hope they clean up all the trash and the cigarette butts from around the bus depot. All the derelicts that hang out there must not be able to read, because it’s a no smoking area.
