MASON CITY – Mason City’s multi-million dollar re-habbed Streetscape on North Federal Avenue near the downtown has welcomed a pawn shop as its latest shopping destination.
Select One Pawn held a grand opening on Thursday to celebrate its relocation from 12th Street NE. That location opened July 5th of 2012.
Tyler Fites, the owner and operator of the store, said Thursday he is excited about opening his store in downtown Mason City.
“I think this will really help business. I’m excited to be down here,” Tyler said. “Lots of walk in traffic.”
The shop has DVDs, video games, power tools, bikes, albums and lots more. The shop accepts video games, DVD’s, game consoles, tools, jewelry, and laptops for pawning or selling.
The store, located at 219 North Federal Avenue, is open Tuesday through Friday 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM.

I wish the young man tyler the best of luck in his business. It is always a good sign to see a younger guy go out and get a business started and I hope he has alot of success. Pawn shops in the past have had a dubious reputation, but that is no longer the case. They can be a very viable option for people who dont have the money to buy new items.
I am not sure if this story was written to give Tyler a boost in his business with NIT readers or a veiled editorial on the downtown streetscape…meaning the only business they can get downtown is something in the form of a pawn shop. At least it is not a head shop, a pure pleasure porn store, a strip joint, or just another empty building front.
Just one other thing…..Tyler turn your hat around you will look better….its just my opinion, and good luck

Well Tyler-I hate to disappoint, but, if you are looking for foot traffic you are in the wrong place. We go to the mall a couple of times a week and I have never seen more that three people at a time in that area. And they were going to the bar. At least he will be close when the shoplifters steal from the mall they can go right to the pawn shop.

Unfortunately, I was told a very sad story yesterday by another downtown business owner. This person claims to have been mislead by a downtown agency on loans/financing and also claims that City Hall has made life hell for (his/her) business. I have heard this theme multiple times and I am just appalled at what is going on at City Hall and the so-called Commerce Center and this good old boys club. Mason City, it’s really time to take back what rightfully belongs to you and has been stolen by these clowns.
Furthermore, walking along the Streetscape Thursday. The planted areas near the sidewalk are disgraceful. Full of trash and cigarette butts the whole way up North Federal.
I wish Tyler well too, but I am afraid he was told some things that are just not true. That area is disgusting with the trash. Lorados didn’t even shovel all of the walk this year and there sign is peeling. The whole area is filthy and the statues are disgusting. Whoever called those art really has no concept of real art. I can’t believe we spent all that money on that crap.
LVS i agree I was there two days ago and noticed trash and debris all over the place. Who is in charge of cleaning this up? The store owners or the city? Both should take some responsability to keep the area clean…Tyler be the man and get a broom and show your neighbors how to keep a storefront looking good, be a example to the others on making the area look the best it can, I know you can do it.
Also as far as the art goes I have on suggestion. Put up a statue of Robin Anderson. It will solve two issues…it will feed her ego, and at the same time scare away the crows in the area.
