Tekakwitha Marie Nelson, 49, also known as “Tek 9,” passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Mason City, Iowa.

Tekakwitha was born on January 17, 1977, in Stephan, South Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Virginia (Touche) Howell. She was raised in Stephan, where she built strong roots before later making her home in Mason City, Iowa.

She was a devoted mother to her son, Darin, whom she raised in Mason City. Her greatest pride was being his mom, and she carried that role with deep love and dedication.

Tek worked at Aeron Manufacturing, where she was known for her strong work ethic and reliability.

She had a lively spirit and truly enjoyed being around others. Tek was outgoing, full of energy, and never hesitated to strike up a conversation or make a new friend. She had a generous heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking meals, keeping her home in order, and spending time with those she cared about. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, her kindness, and the way she brought people together.

Those left to cherish memories of Tek are her son, Darin Klebsch; siblings, Kateri Tiger, Juan Howell, Tom Jr. Howell, Martina, Howell, and Christina Bush; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

Tek is preceded in death by her parents, Tom Sr. and Virginia Howell; and brother, Diego Howell.
