Iowa Secretary of State and candidate for Congress Matt Schultz, allegedly paid an employee after he resigned his state job

A Statement from Sen. Liz Mathis of Robins, co-chair of the Administration and Regulation Budget Subcommittee

“Early in the 2014 session, repeated phone calls and emails were required to get Secretary of State Matt Schultz to answer basic questions about how he was spending taxpayer dollars. Now I know why.

“Media reports have revealed that he handed out a six-figure salary to an employee who simply wasn’t working.  This is disgraceful.  It shows that Secretary Schultz is a poor manager who lacked the experience to oversee the Secretary of State’s office in a responsible way. “

Secretary Schultz owes Iowa taxpayers an explanation and an apology. I have requested that the State Auditor’s office perform a special review of Secretary Schultz’s no-show employee.”
