WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that Webster County Acquisition has been awarded $1,558,716.00 to acquire/demolish nine flood prone residential properties that were severely damaged due to storms.
This project was part of the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, a program Harkin created after the severe floods of 1993. The law and its subsequent modifications greatly increased the amount of funds available to reduce the chance of damage from natural disasters.
“Investing in steps that prevent future damage in an area prone to flooding will save funds in the future,” said Harkin. “This not only supports the community, but all of its residents.”
