Mason City man subdued by cops after numerous fires in town

MASON CITY - A Mason City man was subdued by cops and put in jail on arson and burglary charges after numerous fires were set in town.

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was subdued by cops and put in jail on arson and burglary charges after numerous fires were set in town.

According to Mason City chief of police Jeff Brinkley, Tuesday morning, the Mason City Fire and Police Departments responded to numerous fire calls, beginning at 5:22 AM.  The calls occurred between 5:22 AM and 7:15 AM at the following locations:

324 S Kentucky Avenue

Birch Dr and North Rhode Island

3701 4th Street SW (Arona Home Essentials)

440 S Illinois (Ace Hardware)

777 S Eisenhower Avenue (Gracious Estates mobile home park)

After an investigation, police took Zachary Bruce Sankey into custody.  He is at the Cerro Gordo County Jail on charges for burglary and arson.

Chief Brinkley says there is no ongoing threat to the community at this time.  Police and/or fire officials are conducting preliminary investigations into the fires, he said.

NIT reported back in 2015 that Sankey was arrested on felony drug charges.
