ALTOONA, IOWA – An infant and two adults were killed in Iowa head-on auto crash Saturday.
The accident took place after midnight on Saturday, December 5, 2020, near the 142 exit on Interstate 80 in Altoona, Iowa area. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2002 VW Golf driven by 24-year-old Diana Sanchez Tello of Des Moines, entered I-80 from the 142 interchange heading westbound in the eastbound lanes. It then struck head-on a 2021 semi-tractor driven by 59-year-old Jeffrey Richards or Steatro, Illinois.
As a result of the crash, Tello was killed, as was 28-year-old Gustabo Salcedo of Des Moines and a 1-year-old infant from West Des Moines whose name was not released.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Iowa DOT and Polk county sheriff, West Des Moines police and Altoon fire and EMS. The accident remains under investigation.
