MASON CITY – Mason City police and ambulance were summoned to Burke’s Bar, 1221 North Federal Avenue, late Sunday night for an apparent assault.
Witnesses said that an older man was outside the bar and was punched out by another man. The injured man was briefly unconscious before he started coming around. Bystanders supported his head and wiped blood from from an abrasion while the ambulance was en route. He was transported to Mercy Hospital.
“He (the injured man) just got out of the hospital,” one person said. “He wasn’t supposed to be drinking and the bar wasn’t serving him. He was asking other people to buy him drinks.”
Police entered the bar and asked patrons what, if anything, they saw.
A witness said the man who was the aggressor fled in a red car.
