Fundraiser set for NIACC Charles City Scholarship 

CHARLES CITY – The North Iowa Area Community College Charles City Scholarship Committee will host a gourmet dinner, “A Night at the Ballet” the 25th bi-annual scholarship fund-raising event on Thursday, September 8, at the Charles City Elks Lodge  – 2111 Clark Street.

The social hour with live music by Charles City High School orchestra students performing, will begin at 5:30 p.m. The gourmet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes: Chicken Poulette, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Fall Themed Garden Salad, Seasonal Steamed Fresh Vegetables, and Raspberry White Chocolate Layer Cake. Each ticket purchased includes two drink tickets.

Scholarship committee members involved in the planning are Matt Bradley, Lyndsay Clark, Sydney Franzen, Josh Johnson, Jane Larson, Jayne Stowe and Ann Troge.

Proceeds from the gourmet dinner benefit the Charles City Area Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $50 per person, or a table of eight for $350. Tickets may be reserved by calling the NIACC Foundation at 1-888-466-4222, ext. 4386.  Seating is limited.

Generous donors have provided a variety of items available for live and silent auction at the event. Featured items include: Two tickets to a NIACC Performing Arts Series show with reserved parking, two tickets to the Iowa – Iowa State football game given by First Security Bank, a fishing excursion with NIACC President, Dr. Steve Schulz, a sightseeing flight given by Bill Kyle, and a handmade quilt made by Miriam Leaman to name a few.

The Charles City Area Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to students attending North Iowa Area Community College either on the main campus or at the NIACC Charles City Center.  The scholarships are awarded to applicants at least 18 years old, living in Floyd County and/or within a 20-mile radius of Charles City, and enrolled part-time (up to 11 semester hours of college credit).

More than 150 Floyd County residents have benefited from this scholarship fund, which is made possible through the support and generosity of local businesses and community members.

North Iowa Area Community College, founded in 1918, is a nationally-recognized, two-year college located in central North Iowa.
