FAYETTE, IOWA – A Sunday afternoon brawl on a North Iowa college campus lead to an arrest and another suspect fleeing police.
Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a large fight at the Upper Iowa Campus in the City of Fayette at about 5:55 PM Sunday. By the time officers arrived, however, the altercation had already broken up.
Acting upon information gathered at the scene, deputies went to a residence to locate 19-year-old Upper Iowa University football player Luke Dean Hermanson, of Fayette (formerly of Ankeny)- who had allegedly assaulted another student at the college – but was not located. Hermanson is now sought by police on assault and interference charges.
Hermanson is already facing assault causing bodily injury charges filed in January by the Fayette Police Department. He had been released from jail on unsecured bond. He had also received a deferred judgement and community service for assaulting Fayette police officers in 2013.
During the investigation, 20-year-old Connor Indigo Devin of Ankeny was arrested and charged with Interference with Official Acts, a simple misdemeanor. Devin assisted Hermanson in escaping the area before deputies could place him under arrest.
Fayette police assisted with the incident.
