Bus collides with tipped semi on Interstate 35 Saturday morning

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A bus and a semi collided Saturday morning on Interstate 35 in rural Cerro Gordo county, but few injuries were reported in the accident.

On January 12th, 2019 at 2:35 AM, Cerro Gordo county deputies responded to a collision on Interstate 35 at the 180 Mlle Marker, southbound. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a collision between a 2017 Jefferson lines passenger bus driven by 58-year-old Nancy Shadel of Holden, Missouri and a 2019 Peterbuilt semi truck/trailer driven by 37-year-old Jacob Hangers of Newton, Iowa. Both vehicles were southbound when the semi trailer tipped over, blocking the roadway. Due to weather conditions, the passenger bus was unable to avoid the truck and they collided. The bus came to rest in the west ditch. Seven passengers along with the driver were aboard the bus. Only one subject reported minor injuries.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Clear Lake police, state patrol, Mason City Fire Department medics, Thornton EMTs, Scott’s Towing and R&R Towing.
