NIACC’s Connell wins 1,000 at Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – NIACC freshman Gavin Connell won the 1,000- meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 49.10 seconds Friday at the Minnesota State Invitational.

NIACC placed fifth in its first meet of the 2019 calendar year with 43.5 points.

Also for the NIACC men, sophomore Jacob Henjum was third in the high jump (1.89 meters) and sixth in the triple jump (12.97 meters). Connell was sixth in the mile (4:52.51) and sophomore Kyle Younker was sixth in the 200 (22.98).

For the NIACC women, freshman Emma Davison was fourth in the mile (5:51.20), Ivy Rollene was fourth in the 800 (2:57.89), Ally Trager was seventh in the 600 (1:52.66) and Dashawn Wyatt was 12th in the 200 (27.41).

NIACC returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Wartburg College Chelsey M. Henkenius Open in Waverly.

Men’s team standings – Minnesota State 271.5, Sioux Falls 102.5, Augustana (S.D.) 84, Dakota State 76, NIACC 43.5.

Women’s team standings – Minnesota State 257, Augustana (S.D.) 104.5, Sioux Falls 93.5, Dakota State 41, Upper Iowa 31, NIACC 14.
