MASON CITY – A Mason City man with a drunk driving past – already facing a felony OWI case – was at it again, and once cops got on his trail, he attempted to flee justice.
Mason City police were assisted by Cerro Gordo deputies Sunday night, June 11 after a traffic complaint was lodged. At some point in town, around 8:16 PM, law enforcement came into contact with a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Jesse Lewis Halfpop of Mason City, who refused to stop. A vehicle pursuit then commenced, and eventually, Halfpop was stopped. After an investigation, Halfpop was charged with felony third-offense operating while intoxicated, speeding, open container of alcohol, failure to obey a stop sign, driving with a revoked license, and eluding.
Halfpop was taken to the county jail and remains held there on bond, awaiting a June 16 hearing.
Halfpop was arrested for felony third-offense operating while intoxicated and interference with official acts back on May 27 by Mason City police. He is facing an arraignment later this month. Back in March of 2012, Halfpop was drunk driving when he rolled his car at a corner on B-20 north of Clear Lake near the intersection of Grouse Avenue (B-20) and 310th Street. He was later guilty of first-offense operating while intoxicated.
