Mason City construction business suffers second burglary within a year

MASON CITY – A Mason City construction company claims it has been the victim of a burglary in which over $10,000 worth of tools and supplies were stolen.

Mason City police confirm that on October 8, 2016, at 10:10 AM, an employee with Young Construction reported a burglary to the business, located at 1539 North Federal Avenue. Police tell NIT the burglary is believed to have occurred within previous 16 hours. Over $10,000 worth of tools and supplies were stolen.

Young Construction, in a paid social media post, claims the details of the crime were:

“Between the hours of 6:00 p.m. Friday, October 7th and 7:30 a.m. Saturday, October 8th the back of our shop was broken into 1539 N Federal Mason City. Some of the items included are: Bosch chop saw, Bosch table saw, 6 pack all marked in Young Construction in YC hammer drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw, 2 batteries, circular saw – all 18v. Bosch circular saw 5 amp marked Young Construction YC. McCulloch generator (very used) yellow two wheels marked. Graco paint sprayer blue – with two wheel – brand new gun and 100′ hose. Bostitch air compressors (2). Brand new Bostitch in package brad nailer and brand new in box Bosch drill and impact driver set 18v slim batteries – Menards stickers. Red tool box with 5 paint guns. Hiatchi (1 week old) compound miter saw. Hitachi stapler with one inch crown (1 week old). Makita compound miter saw with laser. Milwaukee router. Green metal chop saw with brand new disc cutting blade – like new. Blue wheel barrel with orange spray. Tons of hand tools. This is a partial inventory list – they also broke our security lights.”

Young Construction says it is “offering a $1,000 cash reward for information that leads to the tools and the arrest of person(s) that were involved in the crime. All tips we receive will be kept anonymous. You can call 641.430.1767.”

Police say this case is still under investigation.

This alleged burglary is the second such incident at Young Construction within a year. According to police, on November 27, 2015, approximately $500.00 in tools were stolen from a truck on the same property.

    I wouldnt be concerned with the Mexicans. Worry about the tweakers born and raised right here in Mason City and any company should have an inventory with serial numbers. It’s what you do for your insurance com6

    Alleged burglary indeed! His detailed inventory of missing items sounds highly suspicious. Looks like the insurance company will ante up amid all the free publicity.

    I too suspect some of the people who work for him. There is one tweaker who does roofing for him that lives just down the street. Funny stuff going on there.
