NIACC’s Bullingham, Pederson earn conference player of week honors

MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore outfielder Troy Bullingham has been selected as the ICCAC player of the week for the week of April 11-17.

In six games last week, Bullingham hit .565 with five home runs, three doubles and 18 RBIs as the Trojans went 4-2, including a four-game ICCAC sweep of Southwestern.

In the Southwestern series, Bullingham hit three home runs with three doubles and 12 RBIs.

Bullingham is hitting .427 and is seventh in NJCAA Division II with 50 RBIs and 12th in NJCAA Division II with 10 home runs.

Bullingham is tied for second with Justin Johnson (2005-06) on NIACC’s career RBI list with 108. He ranks fourth on the school’s career home run list with 18, ranks fifth on career hit list with 127 and is tied for ninth with Danny Reed (2005-06) on career doubles list with 27.

Bullingham is the fourth NIACC player to be earn ICCAC player of the week honors this season. Other Trojans honored were shortstop Robbie Glendinning (March 28-April 3) and pitchers Derek Lieurance (Feb. 15-21) and Dan Loats (April 4-10).

No. 14 NIACC (25-12 overall, 12-4 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday in a nonconference doubleheader at Dakota County Technical College. The Trojans host No. 9 Iowa Central (20-8, 9-7) in four-game conference series Saturday and Sunday at Roosevelt Stadium.

Meanwhile, NIACC sophomore Lexy Pederson has been selected as the ICCAC pitcher of the week for the week of April 11-17.

Pederson (6-5) was 3-0 last week with wins over Iowa Lakes, Northeast CC and Ellsworth. She struck out 37 batters and allowed two earned runs in 26 innings of work.

Against Iowa Lakes, Pederson tossed a 12-inning shutout in a 1-0 victory over Iowa Lakes on April 13. Pederson struck out a career-high 14 batters in the win over the Lakers.

Pederson, who has a 2.42 earned run average, ranks 14th in NJCAA Division II with 116 strikeouts, which ranks sixth on NIACC’s single-season strikeout list.

Pederson has won her last four starts dating back to 5-1 win over Iowa Central on April 9. In her last four starts, Pederson has struck out 12, 14, 13 and 10 batters.

Pederson is the second NIACC softball player to earn ICCAC player of the week honors this season. Sophomore shortstop Allison Scott earned the honor for the week of Feb. 8-14.

NIACC (17-24 overall, 8-13 in the ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at home against No. 4 Kirkwood.
