MASON CITY – Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to assist when a wanted, drunk-driving Mason City man fled an attempted traffic stop Tuesday evening, leading to a high-speed chase.
The incident began February 16 at about 8:52 PM near Highway 18 and Mallard Avenue intersection, when a Cerro Gordo County Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop of a 2000 Buick Regal.
The driver of the vehicle, Dillon Shane Rasmussen, age 32 of Mason City, fled from the Deputy. Additional deputies, along with Clear Lake Police and an Iowa State Trooper assisted with pursuing Rasmussen.
The pursuit went west to Interstate 35, North on Interstate 35 to Highway 122, onto Highway 122, and then back onto Interstate 35, southbound. The pursuit speeds ranged from 45 miles per hour to over 100 miles per hour. The pursuit ended with Rasmussen driving off of Interstate 35 at the Thornton exit and crashing into the ditch.
Rasmussen was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Cerro Gordo County jail and charged with the following:
– Eluding, a Class D Felony;
– Operating While Under the Influence, a Serious Misdemeanor;
– Driving Under Suspension, a Simple Misdemeanor;
– and numerous traffic violations
Rasmussen also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for pre-trial violation possession of contraband in a correctional institution.
Rasmussen is being held on $5,000 bond on the warrant and $5,000 bond on the Eluding charge. No law enforcement officers were injured in this pursuit and Rasmussen was not injured. Clear Lake police, Mason City police and the Iowa State Patrol assisted.
