MASON CITY – Police said Tuesday that they are investigating an incident Monday evening where a woman struck a 2-year-old child with her car.
According to police, on Monday evening at about 5:39 PM, a car-pedestrian collision was reported at the 600 block of South Virginia Avenue. The pedestrian has been named as 2-year-old Akira Culley of Mason City. Police said it appears that the child moved into the roadway and was struck by a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Heidi Estle-Hanson, also of Mason city.
Akira was transported via ambulance to Mercy Hospital before she was transported to another facility due to her injuries. There was no immediate word on her current condition.
Police said the collision is under investigation at this time.
