Four people shot, one dead, at downtown Des Moines apartment

DES MOINES - Police raced to a shooting near downtown Des Moines late Tuesday night where they eventually discovered four people had been shot, with one dead so far.

DES MOINES – Police raced to a shooting near downtown Des Moines late Tuesday night where they eventually discovered four people had been shot, with one dead so far.

Des Moines Police Department detectives are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2024, they disclosed. On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at approximately 11:35 PM, Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to 1405 SE 1st Street to investigate a report of a shooting incident. Officers arrived on scene to find two persons with gunshot injury within an apartment at this address. Officers provided first aid until Des Moines Fire Department medics arrived and transported both injured persons to local hospitals.

One of those persons has died.

At approximately 11:56 PM, a third person with gunshot injury arrived at a local hospital. This person was transported by private vehicle. Officers were able to determine that this person was injured in the shooting incident on SE 1st Street. At approximately 12:54 AM, on April 3, 2024, a fourth person with gunshot injury arrived at a local hospital. This person was transported by private vehicle. Officers were able to determine that this person was injured in the shooting incident on SE 1st Street.

Police said the person who died in this incident has been identified as 18-year-old Des Moines resident Jacob Matthew Brown.

The three persons injured remain hospitalized. They are a 16-year-old male Des Moines resident, a 27-year-old male Des Moines resident, and a 19-year-old male Ottumwa resident.

Police claim there is no indication of ongoing danger to the neighborhood. Des Moines Police Department detectives continue to investigate this incident.

We need more guns and we need to ease gun laws. If all these people had guns and were carrying, we would have four dead instead of one. Geez, what is wrong with this state?

One 27 year old and three teenagers….nice upbringing to start.

If one was 72 and the other three were in their 40s would you say the same thing?
