Cerro Gordo county deputy resigns after sharing photo of accident scene

NIT has been forwarded the name of a deputy possibly involved and has asked Sheriff Pals for confirmation before the name is published. A source indicated the accident in which the photo was taken happened recently near Mason City. The source indicated that some extremely offensive remarks were shared along with the gruesome photo.

MASON CITY – A Cerro Gordo county deputy has resigned after he allegedly shared an accident scene photo to a social media account.

Sheriff Kevin Pals said today a deputy resigned after an investigation on April 4, 2024, into “an alleged posting of an accident scene photo that was sent out to members of the public by a deputy sheriff. The deputy sheriff has resigned his position with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department effective today.”

According to another photo of a document sent to NIT, this is not the first time a Cerro Gordo deputy has allegedly shared photos with unauthorized viewers.
