Two Mason City men arrested after deadly shooting in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS – Two Mason City men have been arrested after a deadly shooting in Cedar Falls early Sunday morning.

On February 6, 2022, at 1:49 AM, the Black Hawk County Dispatch Center received numerous 911 calls about a shooting that had just occurred near the intersection of College Street and West 22nd Street in Cedar Falls. Officers found a male with a gunshot wound near the intersection. That male was transported to Allen Hospital by Mercy One Ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Minutes later, two other males arrived at Mercy One Sartori Hospital by private vehicle with gunshot injuries; one of those males also had life-threatening injuries.

Cedar Falls Police were assisted by the UNI Police Department and Mercy One ambulances. An investigation into this incident continued, police say.

Later Sunday, police said that during the investigation into the shooting at the intersection of College Street and W 22nd Street, it was learned that one subject had died as a result of the incident. Another subject is listed in critical condition and was transported to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. A third male was treated at MercyOne (Sartori) Cedar Falls and was released.

There have been two males arrested as a result of the shooting. Persons arrested are as follows:

Daniel Martez Judon, age 24, of Mason City
​- Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon – firearm (C Felony)

Brandon Javon Mitchell, age 25, of Mason City
– Control of a Firearm by a Felon (D Felony)
– Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon – firearm (C Felony)
– Attempted Murder (B Felony)

Information on the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of relatives. Information on the male in critical condition is also being withheld pending notification to relatives.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Cedar Falls Police Department asks for the public’s help, and to notify the police department if you any information, or video footage, of the incident.
