Mason City police release details on fatal motorcycle-pickup collision

MASON CITY – A man is dead and the passenger on his motorcycle is now in critical condition after a collision with a pickup truck driven by a wanted man in Mason City.

On November 22, 2014 at about 1653 hours, Mason City Police were dispatched to a collision at Highway 122 and South Pierce Avenue. A truck driven by Victor Rivera, age 47, from Mason City struck a motorcycle and left the scene. The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were transported to North Iowa Mercy Health Center by the Mason City Fire Department. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the hospital and the passenger is in critical condition.

A Cerro Gordo County Deputy located the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop until it reached the 1500 block of North Madison. Rivera was arrested there on five valid arrest warrants from Cerro Gordo County. One warrant was for Aggravated Domestic Assault from a Mason City case, four others for FTA Going Armed with Intent, FTA Burglary 1st Degree, FTA Disorderly Conduct and FTA Interference with Official Acts all from a Clear lake case. Rivera was transported and held at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

No other names are being released at this time and the accident is still under investigation. More information will be released when it becomes available. The Criminal Investigation Unit and the Technical Investigation Unit of the Mason City Police Department were called in to assist. Also assisting was the Mason City Fire Department and the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office. I sure hope the county attorney and the Judge that let this piece of shit out of jail with all those charges just maybe will have a little remorse. Its really sad that with all the charges he was still on the street and driving around. Its always the innocent that suffer. POS POS POS

You really have to ask, why is this P.O.S. out on our streets? The judges should know it is just a matter of time until he kills someone and now he has. You really have to feel for the guy that was killed and the woman that is injured. They did nothing to deserve this.

I agree LVS, he was a no show for sentencing in April and has warrants for his arrest, and only after this, they suddenly find him?

I see a big problem in this city and county, they are not looking for these people, he was right under their nose and they didn’t arrest him.

He has been on the run since April, we need a press conference with the chief of police, the mayor and the county sheriff on the reason why this guy has not been arrested and locked up by now. He caused one maybe 2…
