According to the Iowa State Patrol, a crash occurred just north of Sheffield, Iowa, on Monday, February 22, 2021. At about 5:40 AM that morning, two vehicles were approaching each other on Highway 65. The driver of a 2008 Mercury Milan, 21-year-old Exiquio Martinez of Hampton, Iowa, was northbound when, due to slippery road conditions, he lost control of his vehicle and slid sideways over the road’s center line. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Cerro Gordo County Sheriff, Franklin County Sheriff, Rockwell Swaledale Fire and EMS, Swaledale Fire, Sheffield Fire, Mason City EMS and Cerro Gordo County Medical Examiner.
