MASON CITY – Police were searching the North End Saturday for a youth who was said to be openly carrying what appeared to be a gun.

According to a report to the NIT newsroom, police were alerted to a person walking west from Federal Avenue on 12th Street NW, carrying what appeared to be a gun in his hand.

Police were told the youth is an African-American male about 15 years of age, wearing jeans and a hoodie. Police were immediately dispatched to the area, and were patrolling from Federal Avenue and 12th Street North to the overpass near Monroe Avenue, and were then driving the north-south intersecting streets.

Anyone with information should call the Mason City police Department at 641-421-3636.

Great work on behalf of the MCPD locating this person. It’s too bad the 2nd Judicial JCOs have to be so afraid of the youths they “serve”. Seems like most of the kids receive community service, so there’s no real deterrent for them to do better.

Since when is open carry illegal?

When you’re 15

This happened to me once.. 8 am in the morning walking home after spending the night at a friends a cop comes flying towards me pulls up then immediately starts laughing.

Along the way I had picked up a stick and was walking with it just messing around. Well apparently more then one person called the police saying there was a man walking down the street with a shotgun.

Moral of the story, people are dumb and nobody is going to be walking around with a gun exposed.
