Volunteers work this weekend to clean up City’s south side (VIDEO & PICS)

MASON CITY – A dedicated group of Mason City citizens worked this weekend to clean up the city’s south side.

The citizens, working as a team through the Georgia Hanford Neighborhood Association, took old appliances and electronics, furniture, junk, trash and other debris at the Georgia Hanford Park Saturday morning.  Residents from all over the neighborhood hauled their debris to the huge green receptacles from Waste Management.

The is about the seventh year in a row the clean-up event has been held.

Volunteers Chris and Pam Watts were on hand to guide the cleanup, along with Jim Leppert, Larry Solberg, and others who pitched in.  Residents were asked for a few dollars for the large items and the appliances.

Mr. Leppert said that cleanup is worth the time to keep the city clean.

“It’s a fair price, it’s a good service to the neighborhood, people like this,” he said.

He also pointed out the finished work on the nearby ball diamond in the park and that six new basketball hoops have arrived and are ready to be installed.

“We really want to make this a great park, a great place to live.”
