ESTHERVILLE – A north Iowa man already facing a string of felony drug and weapon charges in Emmet County was arrested again this month in Dickinson County, where court records show he now faces three new charges after an apparent jail altercation.

Mitchell Clark McCombs, of Estherville, was charged in Dickinson County on May 17, 2026, with public intoxication, interference with official acts and disorderly conduct – fighting or violent behavior, according to Iowa court records. Criminal complaints were filed the same day, and a non-jury trial was set for June 25, 2026, at 2:15 p.m. A $1,000 surety bond was posted May 18, 2026.

The new case comes while McCombs remains under prosecution in Emmet County in a separate felony case stemming from an October 2025 Estherville police investigation.

According to the Estherville Police Department, officers were called to Mac’s Top Hat at about 12:18 a.m. on October 10, 2025, for a physical altercation in progress. Police said one of the male subjects had left before officers arrived, and investigators later identified him as McCombs.

Officers went to McCombs’ residence to speak with him about the altercation, but police said he refused to come to the door. Officers determined McCombs was inside and obtained a search warrant for him at the residence.

Police said McCombs was detained without incident when officers entered the residence. During that search, officers reported seeing several items of drug paraphernalia and detecting the odor of burnt marijuana. Officers then applied for and received a second search warrant for paraphernalia and illegal narcotics.

During the second search, police said they located several items of paraphernalia, additional illegal narcotics, prescription medications and three firearms inside the residence.

McCombs was initially accused by police of multiple offenses, including disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault causing bodily injury, possession of psilocybin, assault with intent to inflict serious injury, possession of prescription drugs, marijuana and cocaine offenses, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of prescription drugs with intent to deliver.

Iowa court records in Emmet County show McCombs is charged in case FECR013462 with one count of controlled substance violation, a class C felony; another controlled substance violation, a class D felony; two counts of possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense, class D felonies; two counts of failure to affix a drug tax stamp, class D felonies; dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon, a class D felony; possession of controlled substance marijuana third or subsequent offense, an aggravated misdemeanor; and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor.

No disposition has been entered in the Emmet County case, according to court records. An April 16, 2026, order continued the case and set a pretrial conference for June 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. and a jury trial for July 14, 2026, at 9 a.m.

McCombs (pictured at top) is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
