DAVENPORT, IOWA – An Iowa strip club patron was beaten into a coma nearly 10 years ago, and after his recent death, three men face murder charges.
On Thursday, October 15, 2015, just after midnight, the Davenport Police Department was dispatched to the now-closed and formerly extremely-troubled Chorus Line Strip Club, previously located at 4128 N. Brady Street, in reference to an assault. Officers located an adult male victim later identified as Joshua Sutton Sr., in the club who was transported to the local hospital, and then to University of Iowa Hospitals for emergency medical treatment of critical head injuries suffered during the assault.
After the incident, in 2015, three men (reportedly brothers) were arrested, all charged with Willful Injury-Causing Serious Injury related to this incident:
Kamden Shelton (24-years-old in 2015)

Juan Shelton (31-years-old in 2015)

Trenton Shelton (30-years-old in 2015)

The victim remained in a chronic vegetative state that required medical care in long-term health care facilities until his death on April 7, 2024. According to an obituary, the family said, “You will recall on October 15, 2015 that Joshua Sutton Sr. was taken from us and those who loved him dearly. Taken in the sense of not being able to speak to any of us, to feed himself, to breathe on his own, and to care for his own personal needs. We as his family had to endure this loss with him. This was an INSTANT battle for Josh and he has been medically fragile since, that date. Josh NEVER returned to himself in any manner.”
He was a father of three.
Immediately after Sutton’s death, Davenport Police received autopsy results listing the manner of death as homicide.
As a result of this development, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Kamden A. Shelton Sr., was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in relation to the 2015 assault. Juan Shelton and Trenton Shelton remain in custody on unrelated charges, and warrants for second-degree murder have been issued for both individuals related to this incident.
The case remains in the courts at this time.
