Vietnam War vet gets pet with help of Patriots for Pets (VIDEO)

CLEAR LAKE – A Vietnam War vet was united with a pet this week with the help of a charitable organization.

Patriots for Pets helped George Bennett of Mason City, a veteran of the Vietnam War, meet his new pet, Jasmine, an eleven-month old lab-siberian husky mix.

“I’m real excited to take Jasmine home,” George said.  “She’s gonna get a good home with me.  Lots of love and a little training, she’ll be a great companion.”

Patriots for Pets has a program for wounded warriors where vets can get a pet and all the expenses are paid.

“They just need to fill out the required paperwork,” said Deb Kern, who helped facilitate the meeting between George and Jasmine.

Joel Sasse was also on hand Friday as George and Jasmine met.  Joel is also with Patriots for Pets, and told about a new headquarters for the organization on Clear Lake’s east side.  See the video for his story.
