Iowa political group claims Branstad “cover up” in job creation; falsifying statistics

From Progress Iowa:

Branstad Administration Claims Iowa Gained 1,600 Jobs in March; Bureau of Labor Statistics Shows Iowa Lost 5,500

Branstad’s fabricated statistics part of an ongoing effort to cover up his failed campaign promise on job creation

DES MOINES — Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) announced today that Iowa’s total nonfarm employment decreased by 5,500 jobs in March. The IWD website also produced a document claiming that “gross over-the-month employment” rose by 1,600 during the same time period. The discrepancy is the result of an ongoing effort by the Branstad administration to fabricate job growth in order to cover up for his failed campaign promises.

In response to the latest effort by the Branstad administration to falsify statistics, Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement:

“Governor Branstad should stop deceiving Iowans. His administration is engaged in an ongoing campaign to falsify job growth numbers, which only serves his political needs and ignores the needs of Iowans who desperately need work.”

“If the Governor would pursue policies that help middle and working class Iowans find jobs, he wouldn’t have to invent numbers out of thin air. Just by expanding Medicaid Iowa would see thousands of jobs created, according to the Iowa Hospital Association. And instead of offering up massive tax giveaways to foreign corporations, our state would see tremendous job growth if that money was invested right here at home.”

The Branstad administration has repeatedly and publicly promoted ‘gross jobs’ as opposed to ‘net jobs’ in order to claim progress toward a failed campaign promise to create 200,000 jobs. Now, the administration is using its invented statistic to bolster its claims that the jobs situation is far better than it actually is. The IWD’s “gross over-the-month employment” figure found in the spreadsheet produced by their office is not recognized by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and has come under scrutiny by economists across the state.

What do you expect from any Politican?..Jim

It’s OK when Obama does it though.

@4ever49-well said. progress Iowa is a Liberal, Left Wing publication that deals in manipulating the facts to suit them. You can really believe nothing they say. Only the liberals will believe this bunch of lefties.

From what I can discern from the same information, it appears Sinovic is trying to conjure up a story of “deception” by the Branstad administration. He is doing this by citing “non-farm employment” numbers and forgetting that “all employment” includes “non-farm”.
I would give this twit an F when it comes to objectivity and truth.
