SUMNER — Jean Ann Necker, 83, of Sumner, died Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home, 111 W. 5th Street in Sumner.

An additional visitation will be held Saturday, October 3, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 324 E. 1st Street in Sumner.

Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Tracy Hinkel officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Sumner.

Memorials may be made in Jean’s name to St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society-Breast Cancer.

Jean Ann was born April 10, 1943, at Clarion General Hospital, the daughter of Robert Marland and Pearl Lorraine Klipping Eliason. She was baptized June 13, 1943, and confirmed May 25, 1958, both at Kanawha Lutheran Church.

Jean attended school in Kanawha through her junior year before her family moved to Sumner. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1961.

On July 24, 1965, Jean married Loren Necker at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They were blessed with two children, Rodney and Brenda.

Jean’s working life began at Bishop’s in Waterloo. She later worked as an Avon consultant and most recently with Regis Inventory. She also helped Loren with the family farming operation.

Jean was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and was involved with the Pork Producers. For many years, she also volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels during the busy farming season.

Creativity was a large part of Jean’s life. She made all of the flowers for Rodney and Luara’s wedding and also made flowers for guests at Brenda and Steve’s wedding.

Over the years, Jean enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, cross stitching, stamping and other crafts. She was also known as a talented cook and baker.

Jean enjoyed collecting Precious Moments, angels and glass pieces.

She and Loren spent more than 20 years wintering in Texas, where they made many cherished friendships.

During the past seven years, the couple also enjoyed attending car shows with their 1958 Fairlane, a car Loren bought in 1961 — the same year he met Jean.

Jean had many interests and talents, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Loren, of Sumner; children Rodney and Luara Necker of Sumner and Brenda and Steve Wurst of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren Aaron and Becca Orth of Coggon, Krystle and Betiana Necker of Sumner, Rebecca and Adam Berkes of Sumner, Erin Wurst of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Alex and Lauren Wurst of Rosemount, Minnesota; six great-grandchildren, Zoey Zavala, Trevor and Shane Berkes, Ellie Orth, Adeline Necker and Dawson Wurst; brother Gary and Karen Eliason of Waterloo; sisters Janet Eckenrod of Sumner and Kathy and Rex Kalvig of Ionia; sisters-in-law Patricia Printy of Dunkerton and Karen and Dave Peters of Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law Dorothy and Ted Necker; brothers-in-law Marvin Eckenrod and Dave Printy; and nephew-in-law James Van Winkle.

Additional service information and condolences for the family are available through Becker & Son Funeral Homes.
