MASON CITY — Robert “Rob” Neuhring, 84, passed away September 30, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Saturday, October 3, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE in Mason City. Rob’s family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a morning of laughter, love and shared stories.
Rob was born in Mason City to Leonard and Marie Johnston Neuhring. The oldest of five children, he attended Nora Springs High School.
It was during his high school years that Rob met Diane Tolzman at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City, beginning a relationship that would span more than six decades.
Rob and Diane were married November 16, 1962, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Family was always at the center of their lives. Rob and Diane raised three children and were blessed with six grandsons and seven great-grandchildren, but their idea of family extended well beyond relatives.
Over the years, the couple opened their home to numerous daycare children, welcoming and caring for them as members of their own family. Their home became a place where there was always room for another person and plenty of love to go around.
Rob spent many years working as plant manager at Mason City Wilbert Vault Company.
Through his work, he formed countless friendships and became a familiar presence to many people. Whether he was taking an order over the phone, helping a family at a graveside or visiting with someone who stopped by, Rob enjoyed helping people and making connections.
A sense of humor was one of Rob’s defining traits.
He was playful, encouraging and loving and rarely stayed serious longer than necessary. A joke, a little teasing or a good-natured comment often followed wherever Rob went, and he especially enjoyed making others laugh.
Sports were another favorite part of his life.
Rob was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed watching Dale Earnhardt Sr. He followed WWE wrestling along with college and professional football and somehow managed to support both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers.
Earlier in life, Rob enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Some of his favorite memories, however, came from traveling with Diane. The couple enjoyed seeing new places, visiting friends and family and sharing those adventures with their grandsons whenever possible.
Rob is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Diane; daughter Lori Schmidt; sons Brad and Joan Neuhring and John Tolzman; grandsons Brandon and Ashley Schmidt, Jeremy and Cambria Schmidt, Steven Schmidt, Austin and Bailey Schmidt, Stone Tolzman and Blade Tolzman; great-grandchildren Kaiden and Kinsley Schmidt, Carter, Ryder and Emersyn Schmidt, Jack Schmidt and Kam Schmidt; sisters Millie and Danny Godfrey and Marge and Harlan Baack; sister-in-law Susan and Tom Berry; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Marie Neuhring; in-laws LaVern and Lillian Tolzman; brother David Neuhring; sister Rhonda Pappas; son-in-law Douglas Schmidt Jr.; and brothers-in-law Albert Tolzman, Dennis and Linda Tolzman, and Jeffrey Tolzman.
