MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man showed up for court last week drunk and was arrested.
Dustin Robert Hutchison, 37, arrived at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse on April 13th to appear for a harassment charge brought by the Clear Lake Police Department.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, Hutchison had “bloodshot, watery eyes, and smelled of alcohol.”
Hutchison consented to a blood alcohol test and registered a BAC of .248, triple the allowable limit by law.
Hutchison’s trial date for the harassment charge was moved to May 7th. He is now in jail until April 26th.
Hutchison has been convicted of multiple OWI’s and other crimes and owes thousands of dollars to Iowa courts, records show.
SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
A blood alcohol content of .248 is actually pretty telling. If most people drank that much they’d be a studdering wreck, clinging to the toilet, wretching in an attempt to empty their stomachs.
This man was able to functionally show up to court. Clearly he’s an alcoholic. If he were to sober up completely, he’d probably go into shock and be overtaken with seizures. Alcohol withdrawl is particularly nasty and outright fatal. In all honesty, I’d rather try to get off heroin than face severe alcohol withdrawl. There’s a reason a lot of these people need medical treatment and consistent care to survive staying sober. Without professonal help, this man doesn’t stand a chance.
Alcohol is legal and therefore not a drug. Pot is a drug. Nicotine and booze are legal because they are not drugs…we said so.
