MASON CITY — Lois Ann Gordon, 46, of Mason City, passed away Friday, September 25, 2026, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family.
Per Lois’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.
Lois was born December 2, 1979, in Forest City to Richard and Patty Book Brighton. She attended Lake Mills Community Schools and later earned her GED.
Lois married Dan Gordon, and they were blessed with one son, Carl. The couple later divorced.
She later shared 19 years with her life partner, Gary Malone, until his death in 2025.
For many years, Lois worked as a shift manager at Dollar Tree. She remained there until declining health prevented her from continuing to work.
Those closest to Lois knew her for her fiery spirit, quick wit and stubborn streak. Those traits helped define a personality that made an impression on the people around her and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Lois is survived by her son, Carl Gordon; stepson Michael and Miranda Gordon; adopted son Rick Lee; sister Ann and Paul Armstrong; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Patty Brighton; sister Teresa Brighton; and longtime partner Gary Malone.
