MASON CITY – Area Democrats are planning an ice cream-eating event culminating with knocking on voters’ doors in the hopes of unseating controversial Steve King and re-electing vanilla Amanda Ragan.
Every two years, Democrats in Iowa’s Fourth District take aim at polarizing Congressman Steve King, who continues to roil Lib’s nearly every day with statements and tweets that send them into orbit with frustration and anger. The man seems unbeatable, but this election, a new contender claims to be within 6 points of Rep. King, and area Democrats aim to put J.D. Scholten over the top.
That effort now includes an ice cream-eating event this weekend. Democrats will gather at the local Democratic Party office on Sunday in Mason City to engorge upon the cold, slathery goodness of everyone’s favorite treat, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. They even attracted one of the company’s top dawgs, Ben Cohen (who was reportedly recently arrested and is no fan of Steve King), to egg on the campaigners.
“Ben is working with MoveOn to support progressives across the U.S. by making limited runs of candidate-inspired ice cream to raffle off to raise funds for their races. J.D. is one of 7 candidates being honored in this way. Fun!” Democrats said in a statement announcing the event.
Democrats say they “will be coming together in the Cerro Gordo County Democratic headquarters in downtown Mason City to enjoy ice cream and the company of fellow activists in the area, before gearing up to knock doors for J.D. Scholten and Sen. Amanda Ragan.”
Scholten’s campaign says “It’s coming down to a name recognition game,” and says King is beatable by the young politician, “the Democrat who can finally dethrone the King.”
Senator Ragan faces upstart pumpkin patcher and stalwart Republican Shannon Latham in her quest for re-election. Some experts say Latham has little chance of winning after hot shot operatives in Des Moines allegedly intervened in the Democratic process and used dark money earlier this year to sideline Mason City businessman Steve Minert to avoid a possible primary contest.
The event is planned for Sunday, October 7 at 12:15 PM – 1:15 PM at 219 North Federal Avenue in Mason City.
“All are welcomed to attend this event to meet with the candidates running for office, as well as share a few words with Ben Cohen,” Democrats promised.
Ragan is a suck up to the city of Des Moines

Hilliary led the pack of wolves to cast disparagement on real victims of rape and sexual attacks by her husband, and now she’s backing this witch-hunt saying “every woman needs to be believed”.
What the hell ever happened to proving guilt and THEN meeting out punishment?
Can we the people file suit against the Democrat party for slander, obstruction, failure to do the job we hired them for? The intentional, premeditated attack on Kavanaugh is an attempt to damage the United States of America for the purpose of stopping the policies of the President. Can we start a class action suit to get Democrats to do the job they were put into government for? We are truly in trouble if Democrats remain the obstructionists and slanderers of government. VOTE RED IN 2018
Maybe Mrs. Clinton will be there io serve the Ice cream and see the shiny new goal posts.
That’s why we love you! Republicans must start standing up to the democrats and realize that the democrat party will do and say anything to win, they have zero morals (corrupt party)
