CHARLES CITY – The Floyd county law enforcement center project is progressing, the sheriff’s office says, even if appearances haven’t changed substantially, yet.
In a statement released Monday, the Floyd county sheriff’s office says:
“Although it may look like nothing has happened, there has been quite a bit of activity behind the scenes. The Sheriff, Auditor, Supervisors along with Prochaska and Associates have been working almost daily on designs, layouts, soil testing, acquiring land as well as zoning and other paperwork and technical issues. The Supervisors recently approved the final design layout so now a formal architectural drawing can be completed.
The desire is to start demolition on the former Davico and both houses this fall with grade work starting in spring. Again thank for all of your support as we look forward to our new LEC and Courthouse Updates.”
The Floyd County Jail does not meet the current needs for the staff, public, or inmates, an official said nearly 5 years ago, leading to this project. Back in May, voters in Floyd County approved a $13.5 million bond referendum to fund the project.
